Curro Holdings is seeking to appoint a head of primary school who is forward-thinking and has the ability to lead and nurture staff members at Woodhill College in Pretoria. The head of primary school is responsible for managing school targets through the effective application of Curro policies and procedures as adapted and customised to the needs of the school. The head of primary school is also responsible for the active teaching, knowledge transfer, skills development and growth of positive attitudes among learners through integrated and focused teaching approaches and mentoring staff. In addition, the role involves teaching and coordinating specific subjects as per the Curro curriculum for the foundation and intermediate phase.

Key performance areas
- Develop an annual business and strategic plan and manage its implementation, including academics, social responsibility, marketing, brand image, facilities management, aftercare programme and enrolment.
- Teach and tutor classes using modern-day tools and processes, manage class administration and participate in outreach drives and events.
- Manage health, safety and security.
- Manage interventions and disciplinary processes and mentor staff in pastoral duties.
- Plan and manage events.
- Develop and manage the school budget.
- Plan and manage school administration and academics, including planners and timetables, curriculum development and implementation, work schemes, class observations, staff duties, communication and suppliers.
- Manage assessments and reporting, from setting up timetables to evaluating remedial actions.
- Manage and mentor staff, including recruitment, appraisals, disciplinary issues, skills development and mediation.
- Manage classrooms, including classroom design and set-up for optimal performance, provision and maintenance of learning tools and equipment, disciplinary rules and communication with learners and parents.
- Plan and manage assessments (formal and continuous) and homework, including moderation, revision and supervision.
Qualifications, experience and skills
- BEd degree and/or PGCE or an equivalent, with an honours degree in education or a related field advantageous.
- Minimum 3-5 years’ experience as a phase head or deputy head at an educational institution.
- Knowledge of the IEB curriculum.
- Proven management and leadership skills and business acumen.
- Ability to lead and mentor staff members.
- Excellent communication, organisational and planning skills.
- Willing and able to work extended hours, travel and to become involved in all aspects of school life.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- SACE-registered.
- Clear criminal record.
